Five basic yoga poses – A great way to start your day

basic yoga poses to start the day

Yoga has always been associated with the nurturing of the three important facets of our being – physicality, mentality and spirituality. And, what is more apt than to start our day with a dose of enrichment on these combined faculties? So, without further ado, let us check out some of the simple yet effective Yoga poses one can start their day with.

Cat – Cow Pose

A relaxing exercise that requires you to get down on all fours, you start the movement by looking at the ceiling. Then you need to inhale and bend your head downwards towards the floor, with your gaze now fixated along the line of your belly button. At this instance, you need to arch your back upwards just like an alarmed cat, which in turn flexes your spine.

Downward Dog

We are done with cats, and now it’s time to stretch like a dog. A sort of downward facing position, this pose requires you to put your knees below the thigh region (with your heels resting on the floor), while you stretch your arms forward (with the palms resting on the floor). Now, you move up your knees along with lifting up your tailbone, while your heels press more on the ground. This stretches your body and makes your hamstring more flexible.

Warrior One

This classic standing pose requires you to move your left foot and put it at an angle (preferably 45 degrees) to the ground. The right foot should be taken forward, so that your knee is aligned vertically to your ankle. Now, you can put both your arms above your head, and then fold your palms like a ‘Namaste’. When this pose is set, you need to keep your view along your thumb region, with the hip and torso staying stationary and the pressure being released at the feet.

Tree Pose

Another classic standing pose, this posture is nigh perfect for that refined essence of balance and concentration. While standing firmly, you need to shift the weight of your body to your right leg (which acts as the only support), while the sole of your left foot rests upon your right thigh at a perpendicular. One can also rest the left sole upon the right calf, but care should be taken not to rest it upon the knee.

Camel Pose

Also known as the Ustrasana, this unique pose allows you to mimic the one and only camel. With your knees as the support, the posture requires a full bowing of the body (with both of the legs on the ground). Then you can grab at your heel from behind, in the process creating an outward arc along the belly region. According to experts, the inner flexing regenerates energy along your throat, heart and chest.
