Sukhasana – All you need to know about Easy Pose or Sukhasana

Sukhasana

A comparatively easier yoga pose than the Siddhasana or Padmasana, the Sukhasana, also known as Easy Pose, Decent Pose or Pleasant Pose, is an extremely graceful yoga pose for people with or without physical disabilities. Etymologically speaking, Sukhasana derives its origin from Sukha meaning pleasure and asana, which means seat, pose or posture. This yoga pose helps you lengthen your spine and open your hips.

Here is a brief tutorial that should help you do Sukhasana with ease:

Steps Involved

1. Starting it with Staff Pose or Dandasana, now cross your legs and slowly place your foot under the opposite knee. Try to bring your legs closer to your torso; however, keep a comfortable gap between your feet and pelvis. Make sure that the inner arches of your feet serve as a perfect cushion to your shins.

2. It’s so very important to keep your pelvis, your pubic bone and tail bone in a perfect neutral position. For doing so, what you need to do is lift your sitting bones off the floor and then sit down in a comfortable position.

3. Next, either bring your hands to your knees with your palms facing downward or stack them in your lap with palms up. Make sure that your head and body are perfectly straight with no overarching of your lower back.

5. Stay in this position for 5 to 10 minutes initially. However, as you practice this pose regularly, you may increase this duration to half an hour or longer.
