Olympus had undertaken this interesting interactive advertisement campaign to promote its shockproof and waterproof camera, Olympus 720. The firm had decided to promote the new technology by directly interacting with customers in an approach that would leave an unforgettable impression in their mind. The camera was placed just opposite to one of the world’s most famous and most photographed landmark, the Sydney Opera House. Furthermore, the camera was chained and dropped 20 ft into Sydney Harbour. Tourists were invited to see the toughness and genuinely waterproof technology of the Olympus camera by pulling the camera out of the depths of Sydney Harbour, taking a photo with it and then throwing it back into the water.

The tourists were then requested to directly download their photo from an online site, where they could learn more about the technology and other benefits of the product. People were increasingly growing curious to see the demonstration and received greater public attention as it was strategically placed in a high traffic spot. Moreover, based on a very simple but extremely effective idea, the ambient campaign was a clever example of demonstration of the product’s benefit. The campaign was developed by Saatchi & Saatchi, Sydney.
