Dream Work therapy is a therapeutic approach that focuses on the interpretation of dreams. According to this therapy, dreams of a person are figured out and are used to help in suggesting possible solution.
Dreams are considered to be a mirror of one’s subconscious mind. These dreams can express the real feeling and emotions of a person. The dreams can be used to connect to the inner self and deeper feelings. This can in turn enable the person to channelize energy and assist in their growth and healing.
During a dream work session, therapist and the participant meet in a free environment. The participant narrates about a particular dream. The therapist then tries to correlate the dream to the other happenings in the participant’s life. A two-way communication is initiated and the participant is freely allowed to describe the events in their life, their emotions and the details of the dream.
There could be varied emotions like fear, anger, jealousy, etc in the dream. Or there can be events like a person falling down, drowning, robbers coming in, etc. Dreams have meanings and the aim of the session is to understand this meaning. Following this, the therapist can help the participant to realize the reason behind these occurrences and any possible resolutions.
