Here is Alarming news for mobile service providers in India. If you believe that it is hard for your existing customers to leave the service just because they want to retain the number, its time for a rethink. Nielsenâs Mobile Consumer Insights study, which surveyed 12,500 Indian mobile subscribers across 50 metropolitan areas, reveals that things may not be the same in the future.
As the idea of mobile number portability (MNP), which helps people to retain their old phone number even when they switch service providers, is being contemplated in India, the survey finds that there are many who crave for a change. About 18% of Indian mobile customers said that they would change their operator if they have the ability to retain their number. A quarter of customers of Reliance and Tata Indicom said that they would be keen to change if MNP becomes reality, while 19 percent of BSNL subscribers would do the same. You can see the graphical representation of the date here.
Anyway, let MNP become a reality. In the service sector, âsurvival of the fittestâ should be the motto.
