In a move to re-brand itself Ask.com has bid adieu to its popular (and oh so loving) butler logo. The key here is “differentiation” and while addressing at Search Engine Strategies Conference & Expo. IAC/InterActive Corp. (which owns the engine) chairman Barry Diller says it would be a challenge to take on leaders like Google and Yahoo. Ask.com’s newly design page has a striking similarity with Google whereas it tries to differentiate with options like toolbar and a new map service. Also the search engine plans to include editorial results above sponsored ads. The map service is also going to be a lot more dissimilar than Google Earth which chiefly shows satellite views.
