HBO’s vampires have succeeded to scare away news from the cover page of Los Angels Times. On Fridayâs print editions, the paper carried a full front-page ad for the HBO’s series True Blood, in which Stephen Moyer stares menacingly, with blood dripping from the corner of his mouth. Frighteningly interesting, isnât?
The actual cover page comes after this âvampiresâ affairâ. Readers remove the wrap to find the regular front page, anchored by the Lakers’ NBA Finals win over the Magic on Thursday night in Orlando.
This is a not-so-new affair for The Times. It has announced in 2007 that it would begin considering front-page advertisements. Remember the uproar when the paper ran an ad for the NBC show Southland that resembled a news column and occupied traditional news space. We are having more and more incidents of commercial interests scoring over journalistic ethics.
