Measure and enhance your work efficiency with the help of a chess clock

Opinion and Views

Sometimes the time of the day we are at work and the time we spend actually working are not the same. Many people have the tendency of procrastinating work only to hurry just before the deadline and delaying work by taking too many coffee breaks. If you are one such person then you must find a way to increase your work efficiency. Work efficiency is the amount of work you do on a working day and the time you spend seriously working without browsing the net or playing games on your cell phone. Many people complain of getting distracted easily when at work. This problem can lead to low self esteem and problems at work. Your due promotion may get delayed and you may get stuck to one spot in your career instead of moving forward. Your work efficiency will determine the course of your career. You can increase your work efficiency with the help of a chess clock. The following guidelines will enlighten you on this topic.

chess strategies

Get a chess clock:

If you don’t have a speed chess clock at home then you should buy one. You will get one easily at the toy store in your neighborhood or you can look for one online. You can also ask your nearest chess club members or a friend who is a chess enthusiast for giving you a spare speed chess clock. You should put the chess clock at a convenient place, preferably your desk. Keep it close so you can glance at it to check the time you have spent working every now and then.

Mark it:

Every speed chess clock has got two faces so that both the players can check time during the game. Mark one of the faces ‘work time’ and another as ‘break time’. This way you will be able to measure how much time you have spent on work and how much time you have wasted on coffee breaks and gossiping with your colleague.

Focus more:

This method of enhancing your working efficiency will only be fruitful if you focus on work. You should consciously decrease the amount of time you spend on breaks and stop wasting time by procrastinating.

Learn to be a team player for achieving more success

Opinion and Views

To achieve success in career you must learn to work in a team and make a niche in your team. In a corporate infrastructure often workers have to team up for getting different jobs done. Even the most efficient employees need to team up sometimes for completing projects. If you do not know how to work in a team then you will not be able to form a healthy working relationship with your coworkers. All the people who work in an organization are actually a team and they have to strive together to achieve the company goals. Never extending your helping hand for your colleagues can stop you from riding the corporate ladder. Only a good team player knows how to lead a team and emerges as a leader. Being a team player will win you accolades from your bosses and you will become an integral part of your company. Some guidelines on being a good team worker are discussed in the following.

Synergy

Enhance your work skills:

Never stop learning. The more you learn and develop your skills the more people will want to team up with you and seek your help. Keep on nurturing your technical skills and find new ways to improve the quality of work.

Small things matter:

View your coworkers as your family. You will do small, thoughtful things for your family. The same way you should help in small things in your office. For example you should never leave the copy machine empty and offer to bring a cup of coffee for your colleague sometimes.

Earn trust:

To be recognized as a good team player you will have to earn the trust of your coworkers. You can make this possible by being reliable and finishing the tasks given to you on time. Meet the deadlines and never postpone work.

Must be flexible:

You have to be flexible to be a good team worker. You should be able to work for a few more hours extra to complete projects. Sometimes you may have to stay late at office or take work back home.

Make your contribution count:

To be a good team player you will have to offer substantial help. Your suggestions or work should matter. Try to use your knowledge and skills as best as you can to achieve this.

The role of sacrifice in your life and career

Dr Prem on Leadership

Sacrifice is a part of our lives. Each of us have to sacrifice at some point of time to get what we want or to give what we want. Sacrifice has often been misunderstood. Self-negation and sacrifice is not the same thing. Sacrifice is giving up something so that you can gain something more important. In our life we make sacrifices unthinkingly only to feel unsatisfied later on. You should rather use sacrifice as a necessary tool for success and a happier life. To earn extra bucks you have to work extra hours. You will sacrifice enjoyment and relaxation to get the extra money. In the same way to achieve your bigger goals you must sacrifice a little. Sometimes we tend to block our hearts with negative emotion and resist happiness unknowingly. Some people do not try to change their bad habits to achieve more success in life. Sacrificing the negative emotions will help you feel happier and sacrificing the bad habits will empower you to achieve success.

The role of sacrifice in your life and career

Success can be very illusive and you may find yourself wondering what went wrong. Whenever you feel that your life is not moving forward or you are not on the right track to reach your goals question yourself. Have you done enough to get what you want? One big bad habit that many people have is that of procrastinating. You spend so much time in lazing around; eating, gossiping or watching TV shows that there is no time for self improvement. If you learnt new professional skills or devoted more time in finding better ways of earning then you would have succeeded in achieving the salary you dream of. Clearly by sacrificing small joys you can achieve bigger joys in life.

Sacrifice is not only important in life but it is also a very important strategy of chess. Chess players have to sacrifice their pawns when needed to keep the king safe and get victory. Do not make unnecessary sacrifices. Overburdening yourself with needless sacrifice is not going to help you. If you continuously sacrifice your personal happiness for others you will feel dissatisfied and unhappy sooner or later. Before making a sacrifice find out the reason why you want to make it or what you will get by sacrificing something.

Five chess strategies you can use to win the game of life

Dr Prem on Leadership

Life is complicated and happiness is often unattainable. Being naïve does not help us in tackling the problems and challenges of life. To lead a great life and win every challenge you must apply the strategies of chess. Chess is a game that sharpens our mental faculties and enhances our capability of thinking. Playing chess regularly will develop many good qualities in you that can be applied in life. Chess is a very versatile game and you can never predict the final outcome until the end. Life too is unpredictable and can take some surprising twists and turns. Life is all about survival and so is chess. You have to protect your own king and try to capture the opponent’s king using your brains and patience. To get victory over the big and small challenges of life you must plan carefully and apply well developed strategies. In the following some great strategies of chess are discussed that will help you win the game of life.

chess strategies

Look at the different angles:

Your strategy will work out best if you can look at the situation from different angles. In a game of chess the players have to think carefully before making a move. They have to consider the possible outcomes of the move they are planning to make. Similarly in life you have to make choices carefully after considering their consequences both in short term and long term.

Have patience:

Impulsiveness and restlessness can affect your life in a negative way. You must have lots of patience while playing chess for planning every move and for observing the moves of your opponents. Once you touch a piece you will have to move it. In life we should be observant and patient. Rash decisions are never good ones.

Adjust strategies as you go:

You cannot stick to one single strategy if you want to move ahead in life and make progress. According to the situations and challenges you need to change your strategies to suit the goals and purpose.

Dodge troubles:

Chess not only teaches us to attack but it also teaches to defend. You must know how to avoid trouble and complications to have a happy life.

Optimism:

Optimism is necessary for winning a game of chess and achieving happiness in life. Optimism gives us the courage to find solutions instead of getting depressed when faced with troubles.

Play the corporate chess game to develop your career

Opinion and Views

Chess and the corporate world are often compared and rightly so. To play chess you need to have extreme patience, an agile and brilliant mind and the capacity to look into the future. For climbing the corporate ladder too you need all these abilities. Corporate chess has to be played with caution because you will be faced with new challenges at every turn. You cannot complain about the corporate set up or the work environment. If you want to prosper you will have to deal with your boss, team leader and colleagues carefully. The corporate offices have many unspoken norms. You have to dress, talk and behave in a particular way. The unspoken rules are not same for every corporate worker. You need to analyze and evaluate your rights, position and role well before acting.

chess game

Women who have a multicultural origin find it hard to make a niche in the corporate set up. Often they do not get a chance to prove their worth. Discrimination is present in many subtle corporate matters. In chess one has to evaluate the positions of his or her pieces on the chess boards to find out the best way to make the next move without any harm. Likewise multicultural women have to step ahead very cautiously and develop new connections for smoother progress up the corporate ladder. Informal connections help people a lot in getting better jobs or opportunities. One big challenge that many multicultural women face at corporate environment is the difference between their familial culture and the corporate culture. Balancing between the two sides of life becomes a struggle for them.

If you want to achieve success and earn a six figure salary then you must know your colleagues and boss very well. Observe their behavior, attitude and activities to understand what they are doing to make progress. After understanding how to cope with the corporate ambience you have to chalk out a plan. Utilize every opportunity that comes your way. Like chess in a corporate world too you will have to apply proper strategies to move forward. Strategies have to be backed by accurate and brilliant tactics. Plan ahead of time and keep an eye on your competitors so that you can outshine them and win their appreciation.

Lead your life the same way you will play a game of chess to be a winner

Opinion and Views

Chess is a very engrossing and entertaining mind game that teaches some invaluable lessons of life. If you apply these lessons for the growth and development of your career then you will always stay one step ahead of your peers. Life has become really competitive. We all dream about a six figure income, a beautiful house or apartment, and a luxurious car. We also dream of giving our loved ones a great life and ensure a good future for our kids. For getting all these you must plan properly and apply some strategies aimed at both long term and short term goals. Chess players have great analytical skills and they know how to build winning strategies. Even if you are not someone who has played chess you can use the lessons that chess preaches. Following are some of the most important strategies of chess that you should use for building a great career.

Focus on long term results

Be ready to sacrifice:

The aim of a chess player is to conquer the king of the opponent and reach a state known as endgame. They have to take every necessary step for reaching this state and may have to use the pawns or sacrifice them on their way to victory. In life if you want to be established and lead a prosperous life you need to devote your time on work. To earn a six figure salary you have to start from a basic trainee level. You may have to sacrifice dating, boozing and hanging out with friends because you need to work on projects or impressing clients.

Make new plans as you move:

During chess a player has to change the strategies to counter the attacks of the opponent. For progressing in your career too you will need to build strategies as you move forward. By revising your plans and goals once in a while you will be able to control the outcomes better.

Try to foresee your foes:

In chess as well as in life sudden circumstances may arise that may affect your plans or disrupt them. You have to try to foresee the actions or moves of your competitors. Potentially harmful and aggressive attacks can be countered with proper planning.

Plan but not too much:

Planning is important but at the same time you should not be bothered about every small change or move. Think about the bigger goals and try to achieve them within a certain period of time.

The role of aggressiveness in your life and career

Dr Prem on Leadership

Aggressiveness has always been looked at as a negative attribute. Generally when someone is called aggressive it indicates that the person is capable of physical and verbal violence and ruthlessness. If someone attacks you and you are not defensive enough you may get hurt and injured. Aggressiveness gives you the needed confidence for protecting your body from your attacker and also helps you react courageously. The courage you show during a fight comes from the aggressiveness you have. In life and career you need to have certain amount of aggressiveness to get what you want. Aggressiveness is many a times the means of getting your work done. Being meek and humble is seen as positive quality but when someone encroaches upon your assets or undermines your work then you have to be aggressive and take a defensive stance.

aggressiveness

Wilhelm Reich has worked and written a great deal on the importance of aggressiveness and its role in our life. Nature favors only those who know how to survive. Aggressiveness has a role to play in the survival of the fittest theory. If you do not strive aggressively to get your goals then you may never succeed. Some say that aggression always amounts to hurting others and giving vent to the feeling of anger. According to Reich aggressiveness means approaching something. Without approaching you will never know if there is a chance of winning. To win you have to approach. Mild approach may not result into success.

Aggressiveness is also necessary in marketing and advertising. You have to demonstrate how your products are the best ones. To establish the greatness of your products or services you may have to attack the flaws of your competitor’s products aggressively. This is just a marketing strategy for success and many well known companies have already used it. As an employee you have to be aggressive and make your niche among your contemporaries. This means that you have to approach your bosses so that they think of giving you a raise. To be noticed you need to be aggressive. People who are not aggressive at all may never get recognition for their good quality work. To climb the corporate ladder you have to always be a little aggressive so that people take notice of you.

Face challenges calmly and learn to control stress

Opinion and Views

In today’s world, every individual has to go through tough situations and handle lots of stress to get success. If you get flustered when faced with troubles then you will not be able to take the right decisions. You may take an impulsive decision under stress and make severe mistakes unwittingly. Coping with stress is only possible if you learn how to keep calm when an adverse situation arises. Some people may have to handle more stress than others as a part of their job but more or less it is a part of every individual’s life. Keeping calm in face of danger or while going through lots of tension will help you make rational choices and you will be able to find out appropriate solutions. In the following some tips for keeping you mind calm are discussed.

Find out the exact source of stress:

Stress

We often act differently when under stress. You may bark at your kids or students for no big issue or feel depressed. Stress can amount to behavioral changes. If you notice anxiety, anger or any other sort of difference in your behavior then try to find out what is the cause of your stress. It can be the pending work or nearing deadline, fear of the boss or earning more money for your kid’s college fees. Once you recognize the core stress factor it will be easier to deal with it.

Decide how you want to respond:

Stress makes us act and behave in impulsive and irrational manner. You have to take charge of the situation and think if the reason of your stress is really worth stressing so much. Big issues like losing your home or income or a dearly loved one cannot be ignored or overlooked but smaller matters like a project report that needs to be done or a math test due day after tomorrow should not bother you as much. You cannot control what is going on around you but you can control your actions. Do not let anything change your life or ruin your day. Sometimes letting go is the best way to cope with stress. For example if you are stuck in traffic and have a important meeting shortly then call your colleagues or boss to let them know about it. If you can participate in the meeting through a video call that would be great and if you can’t then just listen to some music.

Act in a calm and rational manner:

When you are feeling stressed Act in a calm and rational manneryou should not just sit and think of the problem but make quick rational plans for handling the crisis or problem. Once you have decided upon the course of action get to work immediately. If you keep on thinking about the problem the problem will not go away. You have to put your efforts to improve the situation as much as you can.

Always keep your main asset safe with the help of proper strategies

Opinion and Views

Protecting your assets is a liability and duty that you should never neglect. Generally every individual has got some sort of asset. You may have inherited your asset or earned it by working really hard. You would like the right person to enjoy the fruits of your labor when you are no more in this world. Asset protection encompasses a lot of different aspects. You have to ensure that your assets are inherited by the persons you want and during your lifetime you must get a chance to enjoy those assets to the fullest. Taking some positive steps for protecting your assets will keep them safe from your creditors. Life is full of unexpected events and the future is very uncertain. Take the necessary measures to make sure that your lifestyle and needs are met in the future even if the circumstances change drastically for the worse.

Insurance Coverage

One part of asset protection is getting insurance coverage. There are many different types of insurance coverage available at the present date. You should insure your house, car and other properties. Income protection insurance is a new type of insurance that gives you 70% of your regular income when the sources of income suddenly fizzle out. If due to some accident or unprecedented event you fail to earn your regular monthly wages the income protection insurance will cover for you. This way your bank account savings will stay protected and you will not have to take drastic measures for getting money. Due to the volatile economic conditions of our world the income protection insurance has gained great popularity.

Creditors and legal claims can take away the assets you assembled for years. Keeping your assets safe is a big responsibility. The asset you have kept in joint account can also be claimed by the creditors. The best way to ensure safety for your assets is to hold it in LLC or Limited Liability Company. Another important aspect of asset protection is to make sure that the right person gets your property and money after your death. It may sound morbid but you don’t really want the wrong person to get your assets when you are not here. Always revise the designation of your beneficiaries and talk to your solicitor regarding it if you need.
