Measure and enhance your work efficiency with the help of a chess clock

Opinion and Views

Sometimes the time of the day we are at work and the time we spend actually working are not the same. Many people have the tendency of procrastinating work only to hurry just before the deadline and delaying work by taking too many coffee breaks. If you are one such person then you must find a way to increase your work efficiency. Work efficiency is the amount of work you do on a working day and the time you spend seriously working without browsing the net or playing games on your cell phone. Many people complain of getting distracted easily when at work. This problem can lead to low self esteem and problems at work. Your due promotion may get delayed and you may get stuck to one spot in your career instead of moving forward. Your work efficiency will determine the course of your career. You can increase your work efficiency with the help of a chess clock. The following guidelines will enlighten you on this topic.

chess strategies

Get a chess clock:

If you don’t have a speed chess clock at home then you should buy one. You will get one easily at the toy store in your neighborhood or you can look for one online. You can also ask your nearest chess club members or a friend who is a chess enthusiast for giving you a spare speed chess clock. You should put the chess clock at a convenient place, preferably your desk. Keep it close so you can glance at it to check the time you have spent working every now and then.

Mark it:

Every speed chess clock has got two faces so that both the players can check time during the game. Mark one of the faces ‘work time’ and another as ‘break time’. This way you will be able to measure how much time you have spent on work and how much time you have wasted on coffee breaks and gossiping with your colleague.

Focus more:

This method of enhancing your working efficiency will only be fruitful if you focus on work. You should consciously decrease the amount of time you spend on breaks and stop wasting time by procrastinating.

Play the corporate chess game to develop your career

Opinion and Views

Chess and the corporate world are often compared and rightly so. To play chess you need to have extreme patience, an agile and brilliant mind and the capacity to look into the future. For climbing the corporate ladder too you need all these abilities. Corporate chess has to be played with caution because you will be faced with new challenges at every turn. You cannot complain about the corporate set up or the work environment. If you want to prosper you will have to deal with your boss, team leader and colleagues carefully. The corporate offices have many unspoken norms. You have to dress, talk and behave in a particular way. The unspoken rules are not same for every corporate worker. You need to analyze and evaluate your rights, position and role well before acting.

chess game

Women who have a multicultural origin find it hard to make a niche in the corporate set up. Often they do not get a chance to prove their worth. Discrimination is present in many subtle corporate matters. In chess one has to evaluate the positions of his or her pieces on the chess boards to find out the best way to make the next move without any harm. Likewise multicultural women have to step ahead very cautiously and develop new connections for smoother progress up the corporate ladder. Informal connections help people a lot in getting better jobs or opportunities. One big challenge that many multicultural women face at corporate environment is the difference between their familial culture and the corporate culture. Balancing between the two sides of life becomes a struggle for them.

If you want to achieve success and earn a six figure salary then you must know your colleagues and boss very well. Observe their behavior, attitude and activities to understand what they are doing to make progress. After understanding how to cope with the corporate ambience you have to chalk out a plan. Utilize every opportunity that comes your way. Like chess in a corporate world too you will have to apply proper strategies to move forward. Strategies have to be backed by accurate and brilliant tactics. Plan ahead of time and keep an eye on your competitors so that you can outshine them and win their appreciation.

The role of aggressiveness in your life and career

Dr Prem on Leadership

Aggressiveness has always been looked at as a negative attribute. Generally when someone is called aggressive it indicates that the person is capable of physical and verbal violence and ruthlessness. If someone attacks you and you are not defensive enough you may get hurt and injured. Aggressiveness gives you the needed confidence for protecting your body from your attacker and also helps you react courageously. The courage you show during a fight comes from the aggressiveness you have. In life and career you need to have certain amount of aggressiveness to get what you want. Aggressiveness is many a times the means of getting your work done. Being meek and humble is seen as positive quality but when someone encroaches upon your assets or undermines your work then you have to be aggressive and take a defensive stance.

aggressiveness

Wilhelm Reich has worked and written a great deal on the importance of aggressiveness and its role in our life. Nature favors only those who know how to survive. Aggressiveness has a role to play in the survival of the fittest theory. If you do not strive aggressively to get your goals then you may never succeed. Some say that aggression always amounts to hurting others and giving vent to the feeling of anger. According to Reich aggressiveness means approaching something. Without approaching you will never know if there is a chance of winning. To win you have to approach. Mild approach may not result into success.

Aggressiveness is also necessary in marketing and advertising. You have to demonstrate how your products are the best ones. To establish the greatness of your products or services you may have to attack the flaws of your competitor’s products aggressively. This is just a marketing strategy for success and many well known companies have already used it. As an employee you have to be aggressive and make your niche among your contemporaries. This means that you have to approach your bosses so that they think of giving you a raise. To be noticed you need to be aggressive. People who are not aggressive at all may never get recognition for their good quality work. To climb the corporate ladder you have to always be a little aggressive so that people take notice of you.
