When advertising makes women commodities

Remorseless advertising is the major culprit in introducing women as commodities. Those ads and campaigns made women to dance to the tunes of commercial interests, and many blonde babes heed those songs. Now, we are seeing many incidents in advertising where women are depicted as commodities.

Take the recent example of ‘Nice headlamps’ bra car ad which has been banned by ASA. A motoring advert featuring the cleavage of a woman wearing a white bra with the tagline “Nice Headlamps” has been banned.

The poster for UlsterTrader.com features the cleavage of a woman wearing a white bra with the tagline- “Nice headlamps, what do you look for in a car?”

The advert drew 44 complaints claiming it was offensive as it objectified women, degraded them and was sexist.
