Sex sometimes sells products and services. Images of scantly-clad women are often adorned the large billboards and movie posters to attract the gazes. But, it is not a goodtime for such sexy billboards and posters in Srilanka. The police have embarked on a mission to wipe off obscene billboards and posters from the city. This initiative is being carried out by the Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women.

The report reads- The bureau said the move is prompted by the sense that the younger generation of Sri Lankans do not show sufficient respect to women and that modern culture treats them as commodities.

Well, we have already seen how advertisements which feature scantily-clad women as commodities. The proclaimed message of this initiative is positively acceptable. But how far it will go? And will it meddle with the basic human rights and the artistic freedom of expression?

The police had arrested nearly 200 young couples for behaving intimately in public places.

What is decency? That will be defined by the authorities. Can it be defined? If yes, how accurately?
