A subway advertising campaign has dismayed City Councilman Eric Gioia to the extent that he wants the company to apologize. The print ad was placed by Public Storage and it reads as ‘Finally a good reason to leave Manhattan’. The ad further provides a list of discounted rates for storage facilities in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx. According to the reports, the ad had started popping up around a week back on the No. 7 train, which is also called International Express since it travels through a varied range of ethnic communities.

Reportedly Gioia has written to the CEO of California based company Public Storage urging him to visit the outer boroughs. He further writes, ‘Each of our city’s boroughs is a wonderful and unique place to live, work and visit. Implying, as your company does, that there is no reason, other than your storage facilities, to visit four of the five boroughs is simply wrong.’

Many regular rider of the 7 train have also expressed their anguish over the ad branding it as offensive.
