Podcast audience 50 million by 2010: eMarketer

eMarketer in its latest survey on podcasting projects advertisers will spend a whopping $80 million on podcast advertisements in 2006.

eMarketer’s Mike Chapman feels the nature of the audience (which is quite broad, contrary to popular belief and who better than marketers know it) and stupendous growth over last dozen months in the numbers have lured major brands to get a pie of the podcast-based promotion.

Mike Chapman says, “More advertising and sponsorship will inevitably follow, as evidenced by the sprouting up of several companies dedicated to facilitating podcast advertising and measuring its effectiveness.”

According to an estimate, eMarketer predicts that the total podcast audience will be 10 million by the end of 2006, and can grow up to incredible 50 million by 2010. The best part about the medium is, interactive podcast listeners are an attractive audience to advertisers who are desperately looking for a measurable result of their client’s investment.
