This television advertisement meant for promoting Hyundai Tucson has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa. The ASA acted over the issue after receiving complaints against this advertisement. The complaints alleged that it promoted dangerous and ecological unsound behaviour.
The advertisement was a part of ‘pretty but tough’ campaign for the Hyundai Tucson created by The Jupiter Drawing Room. The agency had in its defense had said that the campaign aims to generate ‘sex appeal’ around the brand through its ‘artful and ironic blend of stunts’.
On the other hand complaints also alleged that the commercial is both irresponsible and offensive as it promotes cruelty animals. Eventually, the ASA upholding the complaints ruled that the advertisement should be pulled off within a given deadline in its current form.
