The Australian Advertising Standards Bureau is not amused by the 2009 BMW Z4âs “Expression of Joy” series campaign. The campaign which shows the talent of South African artist Robin Rhode and director Jake Scott, though widely appreciated for its artistic elegance, attracted many complaints for allegedly promoting “reckless and menacing driving” and encouraging hoonish behavior.
The ad shows a Z4 drives across the canvas creating patterns with paint. Following complaints that it promotes dangerous driving, the FCAIâs Advertising Code of Practice has been invoked to can the TV ads.
Though the print and online versions have escaped the wrath of the ASB, viewing it on free-to-air or pay TV has been prevented.
