Remember when British Watchdog ASA pulled off and banned iPhone 3G’s advertisement because it made false claims about providing an awesome surfing experience? ASA has again reined in another ad, which seems to mislead the public this time. ExxonMobil’s LNG ad was termed as misleading and the ASA accused them of implying that natural gas was one of the cleanest sources of energy and also, implied that liquefied natural gas is environmentally friendly. It has always been so that advertisements do not mean what they say and the intelligence of the customer is always important to differentiate the false from the true. However, a watchdog like the ASA may really be necessary when we see a lot of unethical practices followed by companies to advertise.
