This system of exercise and relaxation is obtained primarily from Tibetian culture. Originally it was taught as a method of survival in unfavorable conditions. Initially it was learnt by warriors and the versatility of its benefits soon made it popular amongst all other workers and professionals.

Principle

Kum Nye can be considered as a form of relaxation and is a set of exercise practices that can be performed to regain the mental and physical balance. These set of movements are gentle and are easy to follow, thus can be adopted by anyone without difficulty. It helps to raise body and mind energy levels, improves concentration, produces a relaxed state of mind and body and helps to create awareness of self by improving the precision of senses.

The basic set of exercises includes breathing, massage, exercises involving basic and advanced movements.

Method

There is a specific pattern in Kum Nye that a practitioner has to follow. There are 8 positions that need to be followed and held for 2-3 minutes. These positions include movements, stretching of hands and arms, bending and other movements in the specified pattern. Each position has its own importance and aims at improving a particular part of body or set of muscles.

The movements help in increasing the strength, vitality and increases energy levels in the body. Specific breathing pattern is also suggested while performing these movements. Blowing through nose and mouth at the same time has its own importance and the practitioner sees the benefits of practicing these movements regularly.
