Bacteria love to feed on the organic acids present in sweat and therefore thrive near the sweat glands. If your feet sweat excessively, chances are you could get affected by Bromhidrosis and not even know about it unless someone else points it out (or turns away in disgust the moment you take off your shoes).
So how can you treat this seemingly mild and yet potentially embarrassing condition without letting others know about it? Simple! Follow these really simple and effective home remedies on a regular basis.
Dust/Spray your shoes with Borax Powder
Bacteria can cling onto the insides of your shoes and then latch back onto your foot once you wear them. Try dusting or spraying some Borax powder inside your shoes before you wear them every day. The disinfectant properties Borax would get rid of bacteria present in these areas and effectively control foot odor.
Apply Talcum powder on your feet
If your feet sweat excessively, consider applying some talcum powder on them right before slip on your shoes. Talcum powder can keep your feet dry for longer intervals and prevent bacteria buildup, thereby controlling foot odor. You can also substitute talcum powder with an antiperspirant lotion for the same effect.
Soak your feet in Baking Soda Solution
Baking soda has potent antibacterial properties that would help clear out any kind of bacterial infection from the body. Mix a tablespoon of baking soda in a tub filled with warm water. Soak your feet in the tub for about 15 minutes before going to bed. Follow this remedy every day to get rid of foot odor and the bacteria causing it from your feet for good.
Soak your feet in Black Tea Solution
Black tea contains tannic acid which is also loaded with antibacterial properties. Soaking your feet in a black tea solution every day can get rid of the bacteria causing foot odor and close the pores on the feet responsible for excessive sweating.
Boil two tea bags in water (3 cups would do) for about 15 minutes. Add some more water to the solution to bring down its temperature. Now soak your feet in the solution for about 15 minutes. Follow this remedy every day for quick and effective results.
Scrub your Feet regularly
A condition called ‘Callus’ can also contribute to foot odor. If that is the case, then you would need to scrub your feet regularly in order to remove these calluses and prevent new ones from forming.
Mix isopropyl alcohol, sugar and water to form a thick mixture (increase the sugar content to achieve the thickness). Apply this mixture over your feet and use a gentle body scrub to clean your feet. Wash your feet in lukewarm water after 10 minutes. Follow this remedy at least thrice a week to get relief from foot odor.
