Color breathing is the art of using colors for the purpose of healing. It is an alternative form of healing, where colors and their vibrations produce desirable effects on the body, mind and soul of an individual.
Color breathing is also a form of creative color visualization, in which one can imagine different colors as per their life experiences and imagine that they are breathing in and out through the colors. The colors are said to have their effects on the emotions of the individual to bring the desired change.
Color breathing or healing therapy is based on the principle of chakras or energy centres. Human body is believed to have chakras that denote specific functions of the body and mind. They are not visible to the eyes, but they can be felt and when one concentrates on those specific areas these centres can be stimulated. They are generally used to create heightened awareness of the inner self.
These chakras respond to specific colors and hence colors can be effectively used to stimulate these chakras or energy centres.
Color breathing therapy is practiced with the help of a trained therapist, who guides the patients through the process of color visualization. The patient needs to be relaxed and aware of the problems. The therapist gives the necessary instructions to the patients with regards to the breathing movements, the types of visualization and the colors schemes that are to be visualized.
They may use tools like candles, fabric or colored images to help the visualization process. On beginning to visualize, the patient is directed to imagine breathing the color in and out of the body, thus ensuring its spread throughout the body. This can be considered as a form of meditation. The duration of the session is decided according to the severity of the problem faced by the patients and the treatment is planned accordingly.
