1. Honey

For burns that are a little more than first degree, you have to be very careful while using natural remedies. There are chances of infections setting in and blister formation as well when it is second degree burns. A natural healing, antibacterial and moisturizing agent like honey can be used in such cases. Cool the wound with cold water and apply pure and organic honey on the burnt skin. This will prevent entry of bacteria and foreign particles as well. Wait for at least a couple of weeks for the wound to heal.

2. Cold water

This is one of the first simple steps that you must adopt when you get a burn. The faster you apply cold water, the lesser the burn as the cells that have heated will cool down immediately, relieving the pain and burning sensation. You must also drink plenty of water until the burn heals as the excess heating can sometimes cause dehydration as well. Cold water treatment is good only for small and first degree burns.

3. Turmeric

Another healing agent and with amazing antibacterial properties, turmeric can be taken internally and applied externally as well. Take a teaspoon of turmeric along with cold water. Apply turmeric paste on the affected area to prevent infections and blisters from forming. Reapply as often as possible and leave it on. You can also mix aloe vera and turmeric together as aloe vera has great cooling properties. Wait for a week for the burns to heal.

4. Tea bags

Tannin has anti-bacterial properties and is also a natural astringent. For burns, take a tea bag and dip it in water. The tea bag can then be placed on the burnt skin for the effect to take place. Alternately, you may also boil the tea bag with water and use it for washing and application on the burnt skin. This will also reduce inflammation. Again, gauge the severity of the burn before using tea bags as results are slow.

5. Peel of potato

Potato peel can be used as soon as you have had a burn. Potatoes have to be boiled and the skin peeled off for this purpose. Place on the burnt area as you would place a plaster and keep the area protected from external particles and germs. Potato peel also keeps the skin well moisturized. This is useful only for small burns.

6. Plantain leaves

Small burns can be treated with leaves of plantain tree. It has cooling properties and stops bleeding as well. Crush the fresh leaves lightly and apply on the burnt skin. You can also squeeze the juice out of plantain leaves and apply on the wound. Plantain leaves have anti inflammatory properties and is also mucilaginous in nature which helps in keeping the area moist. Wait for a week or a few more weeks depending on the extent of the burn.

7. Salt

Salt is a natural healing agent and helps in preventing infection as well due to its anti bacterial nature. Small burns can be treated with salt water for complete relief. Wash the area frequently with salt water to reduce the discomfort and pain. Relief will be acquired in 3-4 days.

8. Vinegar

Being an astringent and antiseptic, application of vinegar can heal the burns fast. Make sure that vinegar is diluted before application. Apply 2-3 times a day for fast relief within a week.

9. Aloe vera

With many antibacterial and cooling properties, aloe vera is a wonderful natural remedy for treating burns and also in helping the skin regenerate without scarring. Aloe vera gel can be applied directly on the skin, which will help the skin remain well moisturized. Relief will be immediate, but healing will take time depending on the degree of burn.
