Well, Your photoshop perfection hurts my self-esteem! People, especially women, are more concerned about their looks, and when the âperfectâ beautiful women rule their world through visual and print ads, they become apparently uncomfortable. This air-brushing, or retouching of models, makes women feel that they lack perfection.
Here is another example for such air-brushing gimmicks. A magazine ad for an Olay beauty product featuring Twiggy has been banned by ASA, following complaints against airbrushing.
Twiggy, who promotes the Procter & Gamble-owned Olay Definity eye illuminator with her âbright, beautifulâ eyes endorses the product “Olay is my secret to brighter-looking eyes.”
Because younger-looking eyes never go out of fashion … reduces the look of wrinkles and dark circles for brighter, younger-looking eyes the ad continued.
ASA ruled that the ad could give consumers a misleading impression of the effect of the product and banned the advert.
