We have seen how Angela Markel was featured in a billboard, and it was quite a shocking advertising misadventure. Yes, sometimes it happens. Celebrities or public figures are dragged into ads without their consent, or in disagreeable postures. Recently, weatherproof coats, Britain’s coat manufacturing company, deliberately courted controversy by using the image of Barack Obama who was supposedly wearing their brand of coat.

The Garment Company installed a billboard in Times Square showing President Obama wearing its coats. The image was taken during the president’s visit to the Great Wall of China last November.

This recent incident too raise another question- should there be a line of control when we are using another person’s image- be it a celebrity or a no-one. Should we obtain permission from them? Yes, celebrities too have their own freedom and privacy. Even Paris Hilton will become restless if she is featured in an ad without her consent
