The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) refused to pass these posters meant for promoting the film Saw II. The advertisements are showing dismembered fingers in order to depict the part two. Moreover, the presentation of the advertisement is surely disturbing as the fingers stained with blood could have negative impact on children. According to the Association, the depiction of mutilated fingers meant the posters failed to meet the terms with its Advertising Administration standards. The MPAA had ordered the studio to withdraw these offensive posters from distribution immediately.

The association argued that it is essential that film distributors must act in accordance with the rules of the Advertising Administration so that parents could maintain the trust they have in the ratings certified by CARA (the Classifications and Ratings Administration of the MPAA) and that advertising and publicity material connected with rated films is appropriate for all audiences.’ However, public awareness advertisements also display disturbing images most often in order to hit the mind set of people and those advertisements are passed as they incorporate social awareness message. But in this case, the advertisement could not be approved as it was connected with the ratings certified by CARA.
