Reebok has rolled out a new multi million dollar campaign while taking on its competitor Nike’s latest ‘no pain no gain’ approach. The campaign apparently reflects a funny take on the athletes’ endeavor to perform more than his or her capacity and consequently taking on the punch line of Nike, ‘Just do it’. One of the advertisements have gone so far to write, ‘What are you just doing’, which is making the intention of the campaign quite apparent. The posters of the campaign show athletes almost punishing themselves and persuade viewers to raise critical questions about what they are trying to achieve.
The presentation of the campaign can leave many people justifying the approach of the advertisement and they way it have been shown. In order to take a funny approach of the rival company the campaign has traveled much beyond to underestimate and undermine the very soul and spirit of sports where sportsperson does everything to come out as a winner. The tag line, Run easy, of the latest campaign is not also consistent with the punch line, ‘I am what I am’ as these two lines point toward opposite direction.
