Havaianas, the Brazilian flip flop brand can well be termed as the last word in affordable and comfortable footwear. Created in 1962, it is widely considered the most comfortable rubber footwear in the world. These sandals are inspired by a Japanese style of footwear called ‘Zori’ and are manufactured in Brazil using a special rubber formulation. The word Havaianas literally means ‘Hawaiians’ in Portuguese. The flip flops are trademarked for their gorgeous bright and vibrant colors and are available in numerous variants, some with Swarovski stones or football team motifs. You would think with so much going for the product there would be no need for aggressive marketing; on the contrary, Havaianas are credited with some of the most ingenuous, offbeat and eye catching advertising and PR campaigns. Some even say that their footwear design sometimes rivals the creativity of their advertisements.

The latest from the Havaiana ad stable is a giant flip flop flower bed. Yes you read correctly, Havaiana has designed a giant flip flop sandal sculpture that actually doubles up as a flower bed, complete with flowers sprouting out. The sandal is white in color and bears the standard Havaiana logo on the strap. The sculpture is impossible to ignore and guarantees a second look, hence fulfilling the brand’s purpose and generating a highly creative and effective publicity stunt.

The giant flower bed follows close on the heels of other Havaiana masterpieces, such as the flip flop doormat. The concept was a pair of flip flops embedded within a doormat, so, all you had to do was step out of your house and into your shoes. The flip flops were only available in limited edition though. Havaiana also came up with numerous interesting and colorful wall murals across New York City, again, very eye catching.
