This controversial poster advertisement launched by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) with an aim to promote vegetarianism. The campaign was launched in Easington in County Durham, which has an obesity rate of 22 percent above the national average. In the advertisement PETA Europe has warned parents that feeding their children meat is equivalent to child abuse.
The Advertising Watchdog has received as much as 67 complaints regarding the advertisement for being inappropriate. Some complaints have alleged that the advertisement has trivialized child abuse while some complaints claimed that the ad is misleading on the ground that it indicates that meat causes obesity.
However, terminating the complaints the ASA has ruled that no action will be taken against the poster advertisement; it further concluded that people are not likely to misled or distressed as the organization is already well-known for its non-vegetarian animal welfare agenda.
