Recently, the Cancer Council has urged the NSW Government to make amendment in the Public health Act, so that anti-smoking ads are shown before the movies aimed at youth showing smoking. In fact, actors smoking on the screen is a powerful factor behind influencing youngsters to smoke.
It is also reported that big tobacco companies are putting their money into movies for this very purpose as showing a star smoking on the screen has greater impact than showing a 30-second ad.
Therefore, there is a pressing need to show the counter ads before screening those movies.
