Each rib as sharply defined as any famine victim from Ethiopia or Uganda. Isabelle Caro, 27, weights 70 pounds, has been suffering from anorexia for last 15 years. In the midst of fashion week at Milan, Italy, Isabelle Caro appeared naked on billboards, put there by a fashion firm, Nolita, which claims it is only trying to raise awareness of anorexia through the campaign. Nolita is also splashing its name on the campaign.

Italy’s advertising watchdog The Publicity Control Institute (IAP) has outright banned the ad campaign and has ruled out that the “No Anorexia” ad image breached articles one and 10 of its code of conduct.

The advertising campaign has reignited the debate over whether designers, photographers, fashion companies should make sure that the catwalk models whom they present in fashion shows are really healthy.

In the past couple of years, two models from Italy under pressure from their respective designers got thinner, became anorexic and then died. Following widespread protests in the media it has been decided that super skinny models will be banned from participating in Madrid and Milan fashion festivals. Only after showing doctor’s certificate of good health that they will be allowed to let in the runway.
