Indian Ad industry reacts over Pepsi-Coke’s pesticide controversy

Recently, Centre for Science and Environmentin India reported that Coke and Pepsi have high level of pesticide residue which created a considerable Hugh and cry over the issue especially among the soft drinks giants. However, the soft drink companies are tight lipped over the issue, as they preferred to remain out of media galore this moment.

The latest Pepsi girl in India Priyanka Chopra has expressed her view in favor of the drink saying, ‘I trust drinking Pepsi as a consumer. I’m not saying this because I’m a brand ambassador’. Indian health minister in the recent past had suggested celebrities should refrain from endorsing soft drinks since they lure children to drink it.

In the meanwhile, voices from the Indian industry suggest that the celebrities are endorsing these companies with their conscience as they are intellectually aware and it is up to the sensible person to make sensible choice.

The report however, said that these drinks contain harmful chemicals such as Lindane and Chlorpyrifos in much higher proportion than desired. On the other side, the apex court of India has asked both the companies to produce the list of chemicals thy use in soft drinks.
