Tony Abbott, the federal Health Ministry reportedly has said that junk food ads will remain on televisions and in magazines. Describing obesity as the greatest health problem, he based his argument on the fact that the ban on these ads would nothing or little to resolve the growing crisis of obesity that claims almost 7000 lives of Australian per year.
He dismissed the ongoing comparison of junk foods with cigarettes saying there is a big difference between food and tobacco. Further, he said that bans are always a soft option for the government that reflects that government is trying to do good but it hardly makes any difference in most of the cases.
