UAE Telecommunications company du decided to pull off the air a radio promotional advertisement in Dubai following a complaint by a British national. The English man alleged that the advertisement featuring a man ordering fish and chips to the tune of the national anthem of Britain was offensive. However, it has also sparked off a debate whether these kinds of advertisement should be aired or not. In the meanwhile, Gulf News has reported that the opinions are divided over the issue among people.
The advertisement has featured a man giving order for fish and chips to the tune of ‘God Save the Queen’. This tune is also one of two New Zealand national anthems.
Following the announcement of withdrawal of the advertisement, du has also stated that it might take time to remove the clip from radio schedules. Despite the fact the ad was dubbed as brilliant by many, it is also should be taken care of that in a multinational community, concern should be employed when using cultural, ethnic, national symbols being referred into a show meant for mass audience.
