Blue Jays ad stirs controversy in Canada

This television advertisement is one of several 30-second spots filmed by the Toronto Blue Jays to promote their 2007 baseball season, which began this week. However, it drawing wrath of regulators in Canada as they have demanded changes to the advertisement featuring the Blue Jays engaged in a pillow fight with kids. Bowing to the pressure the Blue jays had to revise the original commercial to win approval for unrestricted airing.

The revised commercial is now showing a smiling Thomas jogging out of the room as he would around the base paths after hitting a home run. Earlier, Television Bureau of Canada had refused to approve the commercial until the part showing the child being knocked to the floor was edited out. In the meanwhile, CBC has decided to run this advertisement in its original form since being a public broadcaster it has right to set its own standard. The commercial was created by Publicis, Toronto.
