An online dilemma

The number of Internet users is increasing day by day. People visit websites for information, entertainment and news. With just a mouse click, they can get any information on any subject they want to know. Sensing this increasing demand for online content, newspapers have already begun to start their web editions. But, what if you have to pay for the content?

When Rupert Murdoch, the Australian-born global media mogul, expressed his opinion that the dissemination of online information should be paid for, people began to discuss the possibilities of such a move.

A Report on New York Times by David Carr says that Murdoch is again asserting this view. During the earnings call for the News Corporation, Murdoch expressed his intention to charge for all their news websites. He says that ‘quality journalism is not cheap’

Considering several aspects, this pay wall idea is significant. Indeed, there is a lot of information available online. There are numerous websites that provide information including news. However, all these websites can not ensure the authenticity of the content. That is why people prefer online versions of reputed news papers. The content in such websites is authentic and well-researched. If newspapers want to charge for their online versions, it is justiyable to some extent.

However, the question is, whether the viewer is willing to pay for the content, or whether he will just shrug off and navigate to another site. That is, indeed a big question.

The world is changing very fast. Big will not beat small anymore. It will be the fast beating the slow.
