Nathan Weinberg of Inside Google says some members of Amazon’s affiliate program are taking base to earn themselves some cash.
After the porn debacle Google Base has changed its advertising program. It says
Affiliates Posting is not permitted for the promotion of affiliate sites or products sold through an affiliate marketing relationship.
Clearly its meant for people (Read: Amazon affiliates) who should not get away with any undue advantage.
Earlier Alex Moskalyuk in his blog comments:
Well, it didn’t take that long for Google Base to become the prime destination for spamming the unsuspecting public for the heck of it. Any commercially viable search right now generates a list of items with referral IDs of various affiliate programs.
So people are not simply ‘easily’ taking up this service. Who expects innocence anyway? …and Googglers now have to come up with robust plan to prevent such stuff.
To attack spam or pornography on Google Base this is what presently the company has to say
How will you control for irrelevant items like pornography or SPAM material?
All items that are uploaded must comply with Google Base Editorial Policies and Google Base Program Policies. Items that do not meet these policies may be taken down.
