The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), Americaâs largest AIDS organization, has unveiled a print campaign, âAIDS is DCâs Katrinaâ, to highlight the inefficiency of the AIDS preventive system in the US. The ads are now appearing on the 60 bus shelters on street corners through Washington.
The campaign highlights the shocking revelation that the HIV prevalence rate in Washington surged past 3% which is higher than the rate found in Lagos, Nigeria.
The campaign urges Obama to break his silence on this alarming situation. The ad consists of an image of then US President George W. Bush looking out the window of Air Force One at the devastation and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. And, there is a close up photo of a seemingly homeless personâs pair of hands holding tightly onto a piece of a battered corrugated cardboard with the phrase, âAIDS is DCâs Katrinaâ scrawled in red across the cardboard.
The AHF has also created a 30-second television spot and a website, ChangeAidsObama.org as part of its month-long campaign.
