Advertising Standards Canada unveils 2006 Ad Complaints Report

Advertising Standards Canada has recently published its 2006 ad complaints report. The report has compilation of advertisement trend, approach of advertisers and consumers and their tendency to react. The report has information about consumers complaints submitted before ASC in the year 2006 for review according the Canadian code of advertising standards.

The report has noted that consumers have increasingly raised concern over automobiles advertisements on the ground that they encourage unsafe driving particularly among young drivers.

Following are the highlights of the report:

ASC received 1,040 complaints from consumers about 723 advertisements.

95 complaints, concerning 40 advertisements, were determined to contravene the Code by the independent volunteer Consumer Response Councils.

The retail advertising category garnered the highest number of complaints (137), followed by automobile advertising with 104 complaints.
