You would perhaps never realize the gravity of a situation unless you relate to it on a personal level. It is heartening to see admakers subscribe to this theory and construct bridges between the visual and its connotation, in the process tugging at the emotional strings of the target audience. The objective is all the more important to accomplish when crisis is waiting at the world’s doorstep (read ‘deforestation’, here). ‘Minimalist’ is the way to go when the message is crisp. However, you stand the risk of getting your fingers burnt when the visual fails to connect with the underlying theme of an ad. This, perhaps, explains why TBWA Digital Israel’s noble effort has fallen flat on its face. If your grey cells have been working overtime, trying to figure out (till the message flashes, of course!) why an axe and pincers are required for chest hair removal, do not blame yourself. Metaphors, at times, can be more disconcerting than deforestation!
