What is the healing touch?

Have you ever felt better when you were touched by soothing hands and felt that you needed it the most? It is a wonderful experience, where you actually feel energized by a comforting touch and the body that was in need feels revitalized too. Touch has always been used as a healing therapy and is known to improve a patient’s energy flow.

When touch is used as a therapeutic measure, the therapists place their hands on the patient’s body and focus on the energy centers. They aim at interacting with the energies of the patient and regaining the lost balance. This helps to fight against diseases, improve the immune system and achieve a state of health.
It is performed by a trained and certified therapist or a nurse in addition to the prescribed treatment. It can be performed in hospital patients especially when preparing them for major procedures or helping them to recover from illnesses. While the therapeutic touch is very useful and does not pose any threat, it is better to report any restlessness or undesirable feelings experienced during the treatment course.

Benefits
Therapeutic Touch has been useful in many disorders and is used as a complementary method in addition to the main line treatment. Some of the conditions that can be benefited are:
Stress related illnesses – anxiety, stress, insomnia, dementia, mental trauma, headaches, migraines, asthma or chronic pain
Muscle and joint disorders – osteoarthritis, back aches, carpal tunnel syndrome,
Other ailments like – cancer, thyroid disorders, etc.

This form of healing is different from massage and it involves only the use of touch to facilitate the transfer of energy. Due respect is given to the integrity of both the practitioner and the patients and is best done under the advice of the patient’s treating physician.
