1. Garlic

Garlic is a great anti inflammatory agent and a blood coagulant and hence an excellent natural remedy to prevent ischemic stroke which occurs when an artery that supplies blood to the brain is blocked. Intake of 6-7 garlic cloves a day to people who are in the high risk category or those who have already had one attack of stroke is recommended to prevent any blood clots from setting in and causing another stroke. It is also recommended to use as much garlic in your diet as well. Garlic must be taken on a consistent basis to get good results.

2. Ginger

Ginger works in many ways to prevent stroke. Ginger too helps in preventing blood clots and stimulates good circulation of blood in the body by causing the muscles around the blood vessels to relax. Prevention of blood clots will help in preventing a stroke due to blocked arteries. By increasing blood circulation, ginger prevents brain damage as well. Ginger also reduces cholesterol in the body, which is another reason for developing a stroke due to narrowing of arteries as a result of plaque formation. Chew on an inch or two of ginger root every day to get all these protection.

3. Willow

Willow works in the same manner as aspirin by thinning the blood. Willow prevents blood clots that can cause stroke and helps the person keep away from stroke attacks. Small amounts of willow bark must be consumed every day to prevent stroke. Dried willow bark can be used for making a tea which can be taken every day 1-2 times for stroke prevention.

4. Gingko biloba

Ginkgo biloba is another Chinese herbal remedy that too helps in improving the flow of blood and helps in preventing clot formations that can cause stroke. Recent researches suggest that a daily dose of the herb can actually reduce the brain damage caused due to a stroke by about fifty percent. This is made possible because Ginkgo biloba increases certain enzymes in the brain that help in reducing free radical damage to the brain after a stroke. However, Ginkgo must be taken only after careful analysis of your condition as certain elements of this herb can actually trigger stroke and it can also interfere with some medical conditions and medications.

5. Turmeric

The compound curcumin in turmeric is known to prevent stroke or heart attacks in patients. Turmeric is also known to reduce the brain cell damage after a stroke and regenerate the brain cells as well. Curcumin helps in lowering the levels of cholesterol in the body and prevents the oxidation of LDL cholesterol which can clog the arterial walls and cause stroke. Turmeric is also a blood thinning agent and helps in preventing blocks when taken every day without fail.

6. Evening primrose oil

Evening primrose oil is known to prevent heart diseases and reduce the chances of stroke as well. The essential fatty acids that are present in evening primrose oil is beneficial for the heart and it also reduces blood pressure and prevents clot formation, thereby reducing the risk of stroke. Taking a teaspoon or more of Evening Primrose oil every day as per the directions of a herbal practitioner will keep you safe from stroke.

7. Hawthorn

Hawthorne reduces blood pressure and prevents stroke and heart diseases in patients with an increased risk due to family history and certain medical conditions. Hawthorne is also used on patients who are recovering from stroke to prevent further brain damage. The herb has antioxidant properties that prevent free radical damage and increases a compound known as glutathione which prevent damage to the brain cells. A dose of 300 to 500 mg is normally recommended. However, individual dose would be prescribed by a herbalist based on your condition. Hawthorne has a tendency to interfere with other medications and so must be taken with care.
