1. Blueberry leaf and flaxseed oil
Use blueberry extract or lotion on the affected areas. The leaves are rich in nutrients that are beneficial for the skin. It has a component called chlorogenic acid that acts as an anti-inflammatory. It helps to reduce swelling and itchiness. Apply the extract or lotion directly on the affected areas for more effect. Ointments and lotions containing blueberry extract are available in most of the healthcare stores. Taking flaxseed oil internally is extremely beneficial for your skin. It helps in reducing most of the symptoms caused by eczema. However, it is slow and may take some time for the effect to be seen. Use it consistently and you will be able to enjoy good results within a few days.
2. Turmeric powder
Take 2-3 teaspoons of turmeric powder and add it to water. Boil this water and let it cool for some time. Use this solution for washing the areas affected with eczema. If you do not have turmeric powder, it can be replaced by Indian Lilac (Azadirachta indica) leaves. You will get the same results and good relief from the symptoms.
3. Mustard oil and neem leaves
Take an iron vessel and boil 200 g of mustard oil. When the oil begins to boil, add about 50 g of neem leaves. When the leaves become black, remove from the heat and leave it to cool. Remove the leaves from the oil and apply the oil on the affected areas at least four times daily. The oil prevents eczema outbreaks and protects your skin from new infections.
4. Wet therapy
Wet therapy is an effective way that helps to relieve the symptoms of eczema. You have to wrap the affected areas with wet bandages. Before using the bandages, you have to soak in a bath containing emollient oil. Apply moisture to make the skin moist. If the condition is severe, an anti-itch cream can be applied. Dip the bandages in warm water and wrap them around the affected areas. This therapy can reduce the itchiness, redness, and other discomforts.
5. Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar can be used both internally and externally for combating eczema. It contains antimicrobial properties to fight fungi and bacteria. Mix one tablespoon vinegar with same quantity of water, and apply it on the affected area with cotton swab. It prevents infection and itching. To reduce the frequency of flare ups, add a tablespoon or two of the vinegar to a glass of water and drink it once daily.
6. Baking soda paste
Baking soda paste is commonly used for various conditions such as bad breath and bug bites. It does wonders for eczema too. Baking soda has anti-inflammatory properties and helps in reducing itchiness, swelling and redness. This paste can provide you long term relief from the symptoms. Add about 1/2 cup of the baking soda to water and stir occasionally. When it forms a tooth-paste like consistency, spread it on the affected area. When the paste dries, dust off the excess. Wash the rest in about 2-3 hours. If required you can apply the paste again.
7. Oatmeal bath
Oatmeal has many nutrients that relieve itching and help the skin to heal quickly. To make the bath, grind oatmeal using a blender. Make it into a fine powder. Oatmeal powder is also available in the market. Add a cup of this powder to your bath. Remove all the clumps with your hands. Soak in this water for about 15 minutes. After the bath, you can see a reduction in the irritation and itching sensation.
