Radio Interview of Dr Prem Jagyasi on 104.4 FM in Dubai – Interview by Moe.
Our opinions and views matter a lot and so do the opinions and views of others. Human beings tend to form views and opinions about just anything and everything. The opinions that we form can influence someone else’s thinking to a great extent, and if the opinions and views belong to a reliable person or a credulous source then the magnitude of influence amplifies. Nowadays, the influence of social media has increased so much that every person prefers to consider the views and opinions of other people before doing anything in their respective lives.
Suppose a person is on a lookout for a new Smartphone, he will never go straightaway to the shop and buy one. First of all he would consult his friends and ask them about their views on the cell phone, and then he would search the web for reviews and then finally take a decision of buying that Smartphone. Likewise, when a person starts planning for a vacation, he would never choose a place about which he has not heard some positive reviews, after an intensive research on places and people’s feedback on them, finally one decides a place. Similarly, there are multifarious things about which one prefers to take into consideration the views and opinions of others to be on a safer side.

Dubai A pharmacy in a mall which reported brisk sales of blood pressure monitors during the Eid break highlights a growing public awareness about the need to remain clued in about one’s own health.
“People come to Dubai for Eid from other [GCC] countries and our sales [of hand-held monitors] was good,” says Jaisho P.C., pharmacist at Boots.
Blood glucose monitors for diabetics had also been in high demand, he said.
“Home-care is the latest trend in prevention of chronic diseases or for proper maintenance of your treatment through regular monitoring,” says Dr Prem Jagyasi, CEO of ExHealth, a health care events management firm.
In today’s fast-paced world, it is not always possible to go to a hospital or a clinic to keep track of one’s blood sugar level or check for hypertension, Dr Jagyasi said highlighting why more people are relying on hand-held monitors.
“The days of just measuring your height and weight are gone,” he said. “Stroke patients or the aged can now wear a device which immediately notifies a relative, friend or a doctor if the person falls down or has an accident at home,” he said.
Regular monitoring
The doctor believes that because of the sedentary and stressful lifestyles of people, it is essential to regularly check BP, blood sugar, and BMI (body mass index) levels.
Some doctors are of the opinion that frequent checking of your blood pressure can actually be counter-productive and hike the pressure. People often do not know when is the right time to check their blood pressure, a doctor said.
Marianne Zaida who is pregnant, finds a portable blood glucose monitor very handy. Her doctor has advised her to check her blood sugar levels every day as pregnant women run a risk of gestational diabetes.
She said she checks her blood sugar in the morning before breakfast, in the afternoon and after dinner. “It’s not practical for me to go to a lab three times a day,” she says.

Just made a trip to China Medical University Hospital, 1800 bed hospital with super speciality services. Center of excellence in many area, the hospital has 40% intra bound patients and has 3% international patients.
A 4D – 640 Slice Toshiba CT was their latest addition in highly tech hospital, it can capture clear images at faster heart beat without strips (bending) of heart images. Low dose too. What I liked most is hospital has Traditional Chinese Medicine department as well, which is focused on preventive medicine. Combining modern medicine with herbal medicine is step forward..
Relaxing ambiance, open space and hospitality makes the hospital good inclusion for international patient services.
Visiting science park in Taiwan. An excellent zone for international business. Estimated 7% GDP growth in Taiwan, makes this place favourite for investment.
I visited a glucometer manufacturing factory – CE certified, highly technical and excellent quality control protocol. They produce USB and Bluetooth enable devices. At this moment they are in B2B business and produce devices and strips for international organizations, but it would not be too late when Taiwan’s local brands will embark on international branding journey. Just like what HTC did.
I remember, my first smartphone was from i-mate which was produced by htc, when htc decided to come into marketplace, i-mate went out of the market.
What I liked about Taiwan that minimum wages are suffecient for a quality life of workers, so human rights are protected, I suppose (though I am not expert).
Healthcare is good by government though it could be improved. They are stepping in medical tourism industry, they should.
Food is no more a problem for people like me who prefer vegetables. Excellent meal, fresh and not overcook.
Taiwan is great place for investment. Very prospective and potential. It just need marketing consultancy to make it a good international brand.
I am sure next time I see made in Taiwan label, I won’t give a scary look anymore, honestly, I used to.

Ok, now how am I going to finish this bowl of rice with two sticks. Hmmmm..
I am in Taiwan on an official tour, as government is encouraging medical tourism in this sector and also promoting medical equipment & technology market.
Recently, Taiwan decided to develop a medical zone close to airport a project to promote medical tourism with estimated 45000 visitors in future. I noted the cost of Taiwan healthcare is higher than china but quality of healthcare is better at many places.
Needless to say that taiwan’s healthcare is technically well developed, with latest technology equipment are produced at home. Just saw demo of some award winning portable laser equipment.
Governments initiative are highly appreciated.
