When you are suffering from ulcer, you need to follow a strict Ulcer Diet. Patients are required to eat certain type of foods which lessen the pain and symptoms. Patients must know which foods are good to eat when suffering from ulcer.

What is Ulcer?

Ulcer is when soreness occurs on the lining of digestive tract. There 3 types of ulcers. Ulcer occurring in duodenum is known as Doudenal ulcer. Gastric ulcer is when soreness develops in the stomach. Lastly, Esophageal ulcer occurs when soreness develops in esophagus.

What are the reasons for Ulcer development?

Food is the primary reason for the development of ulcers. Consuming too many acidic foods leads to ulcer development in the stomach. Bacteria named H. Pylori cause infection in the digestive tract which leads to soreness. Gastric juices and acidic foods are directly linked to aggravation of ulcers. On the other hand, anti-inflammatory medications may also cause ulcers. Aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen are known as triggers to stomach ulcers.

The diet is all about decreasing the supply of triggering foods. On the other hand, you need to consume foods that kill bacteria.

Foods to Avoid

Eliminate all acidic foods to reduce ulcer symptoms. Caffeine, spices, salt, and alcohol must be consumed in the minimum possible quantity. Alcohol, spices, and caffeine seem to increase the production of acids whereas sodium irritates the stomach walls. If you are taking some medications, your sodium intake might be increased to an unnecessary level. You need to consume plenty of water to get rid of sodium from your body quickly.

Foods to Consume

Include oily fishes in your diet menu. Salmon, halibut, and mackerel are considered essential when you are willing to fight ulcers. Omega 3 is richly present in oily fish. Vegetables and fruits contain antioxidants in huge amounts. They seem to protect the stomach lining which eases ulcer symptoms. You are recommended to consume bell peppers, raw cabbage juice, apricots, bananas, carrots, and kiwi. Other beneficial foods include wheat germ, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, cheddar cheese, and whole grains.
