How true is the quote ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’?

Hi everyone! I’ve heard the quote ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’ a thousand times. I take two serving of this fruit daily and from the past two months I’m free from any serious ailments. I want to know that what content of apple makes it so beneficial. Also I want to know whether this quote is true or is it just mere coincidence of me not falling ill.
