In a path breaking experiment, doctors have tried to snake wires inside the lungs of asthma patients to destroy the tissues that impede their ability to breathe. The treatment is called bronchial thermoplasty, the procedure is the first step towards a non-drug treatment of asthma.
However, risks involved in the treatment cannot be ruled out at this point of time. Exasperating ultra sensitive can cause breathlessness and the long-term effect is not known yet. At this stage, the treatment refrains to promise a cure of the disease.
Doctors anesthetize patients and insert a lighted catheter through the nose or throat and in to the branch-like airways that fill the lungs.
