Stop tooth decay with chewing gum!

A chewing gum containing friendly bacteria has been developed by the scientists which can help in preventing tooth decay. The harmful bacteria can be prevented by the bacteria killing bugs present in the gum. It has the ability of reducing the bacterial levels as tested by (BASF) a German chemical company’s scientists on a number of people.

The BASF detected Lactobacillus anti-caries as a friendly bacteria. Streptococcus mutans bacterium is responsible for dental cavities which can be clumped by L anti-caries by reducing its concentration in the mouth.

Dr.Andreas Reindl of BASF quoted:

The effectiveness has been demonstrated and the first oral hygiene containing probiotic lactobacllii are scheduled to appear in 2007.

Tips to keep your teeth in good condition:

Clean your teeth regularly to get rid of plague build up.
Have a regular check-up once every six months.

As cautioned by Dr.Gordon Watkins, a member of British Dental Association’s health and science committee, these new products are only targeted against just one bacterium and does not, in any case, eliminate the need to brush.
