Smoking and obesity alarms America

About 80 million adult Americans either smoke or they are obese or both. They are at high risk of poor health as well as death before time. The researchers have estimated the data from a 2002 national health interview survey.

About four percent of Americans come into both categories. The proportion was higher in African Americans than other racial or ethnic groups. The research published in the British Medical Journal.

Cherly Healton, the head of the anti-tobacco organization American Legacy Foundation, said, ‘Overweight and cigarette smoking are primary factors for several chronic conditions and early death in the United States’.
