Research for MS cause is on the way to start

Martha Crowninshield is a former partner at the investment firm Boston Ventures. She is now making attempt to look for the human genome for genes which causes the risk for multiple sclerosis. 2.5 million People worldwide including her, has MS i.e. Multiple Sclerosis. This is an incurable disease of the central nervous system.

In 2002, Crowninshield put $ 1 million in the International Multiple Sclerosis Genetics Consortium. Now the team of researchers raised $15 million and looking for $5 million more to start a massive five-year gene hunt for MS. MS is caused partly by variations in the DNA that make up the coding of not just one, but many genes.

Project scientists will collect blood from 1,000 people with MS as well as 2,000 healthy controls. With the help of developed genetic roadmap, the team will investigate about the exact cause in the DNA structure which put people at risk of MS. If they became successful, the research will lead to preventive drugs for MS.
