Premature baldness: Hair's the cause!

According to the University of Manchester team, a molecular process determines which embryonic skin cells will form into hair follicles along with the hair pattern of the body.

As per their study, people suffering from ectodermal dysplasia, a process in which skin cells fail to develop into other tissues and develop ability to get transformed into other types of cells thereby, forming hair follicles, sweet glands, teeth and nails, are likely to suffer the most.

The genes contained in our body produces three proteins that determine particular cells to be transformed into hair follicles. Out of the three, one of protein which works outside the cell and interacts at molecular level determining hair pattern of an individual.

The cells transformed into hair follicles, send signals to neighbouring cells to produce a specific hair pattern. When there is absence of that particular protein, the development of hair follicles stops.

The research do not clarify about men baldness specifically, rather provides a clue regarding the molecular process can be worked on by pharmaceutical companies as to shrinking of follicles and diminishing hair growth.
