Parasitic worms can help fight the bowel disease

Parasitic worms, sometimes, can be good for the health. They can ignite the fighting capacity with inflammatory bowel disease, IBD. This was concluded by a reaserch conducted by the experts at Michigan State University and called as ‘Hygiene hypotheses’.

Some researchers said that enhanced hygiene in western world can be held responsible for inflammatory bowel disease and autoimmune disorders. Immune systems need experience with infections early in life to build up adequately.

The particular worm, studied as a potential treatment, is named as the whipworm, or Trichuris suis. Now the researchers are looking to develop an animal model to test the efficacy of the worms on inflammatory bowel disease and other maladies.
