Why older women struggle to maintain their shape

While being youthful forever is the most passionate desire of almost every woman, it has been observed that women find it difficult to maintain themselves, as they grow older. Scientists found that in contrary to men, it becomes difficult for women to replace their naturally lost muscles with the growing age and thus they are more prone to falling down and accidental fractures.

Elderly women are seen to have bad balancing ability and a result they hurt themselves more often as compared to men of the same age by falling down because of one major reason – low muscle density. This difference may be attributed to the highly reduces level of oestrogen in women as that of men after menopause, that makes it difficult to maintain a proper muscle mass. Doctors usually advise for the intake of a diet containing high quantities of protein and weightlifting exercises to deal with this problem.

The difference in maintaining the body shape is also because women as compared to men have high amount of fats than that of muscles, which makes men safer from falling due to their greater strength of the muscles.

Women as they grow older should be conscious about their body fat and muscles, as a strong muscular body will help them to be safer.

According to Professor Michael Rennie who works as a researcher at Nottingham University, Older women are devoid of more number of muscles like that in men and are more susceptible to fall off. When an elderly women falling down chances are that she may not be able to be alive for more than two days. On the other hand, a man of the same age group can suffer and survive a more serious fall.

However, you can be safe from this body disorder by taking a diet that contains high amounts of protein rich foods such as eggs, fish, chicken and lean red meat along with regular body exercise that help in resistance such as lifting weights. This would sum up for the muscle mass lost each single time. Another useful therapy for muscles is the hormone replacement therapy.

This research holds great significance as there has not been any relevant research done in finding the differences between the muscle loss in men and women.

Summary:

Usually women struggle to maintain their shape, as they grow older. Thus, women should focus on eating protein rich diet and proper exercise before it gets too late.
